OG&E to Purchase Summer Electricity From Redbud Energy
OKLAHOMA CITY, June 7, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- OG&E Electric Services has agreed to purchase up to 440 MW of electricity from Redbud Energy during the upcoming summer. The power will be purchased through an agreement with Westar Energy, the Kansas-based marketer for Redbud's power.
"This purchase will help ensure our customers have the most reliable sources of energy available during the time of the year when many are most dependent on electricity," said OG&E spokesman Brian Alford. "And, by adding this option, we can better manage what our customers pay for electricity during heavy summer usage."
OG&E, working with input from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, issued a request for proposals for the summer energy in Nov. 2005.
"The Redbud facility was designed to meet Oklahoma's growing electrical power needs," said Mark Kadon, plant manager of the Redbud facility. "We are pleased to be helping OGE serve their customers with clean and economical power from our facility."
The three-month agreement began June 1.
OG&E, a subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based OGE Energy Corp. (NYSE: OGE), serves more than 749,000 retail electric customers in a service area spanning 30,000 square miles, including about 75,000 customers in western Arkansas.
Redbud Energy is a 1,200 megawatt, combined cycle, natural gas turbine power plant located near Luther, Oklahoma. The Redbud facility is an independent power producer and a participating member in the Southwest Power Pool.
