Oklahoma Gas & Electric donates 495,000 energy efficient light bulbs to families in need

February 6, 2017

OKLAHOMA CITY — Throughout 2016, OG&E helped families across Oklahoma by donating energy-efficient light bulbs to Regional Food Banks. The Food Banks distributed 495,000 LED and CFL light bulbs through local food pantries located in the OG&E service territory, reaching approximately 123,750 families in need. OG&E has renewed its commitment and will continue to support this important program in 2017.

OG&E piloted the food bank program in 2015 with the distribution of 200,000 CFL bulbs and expanded the program in 2016 due to its immense popularity. "Energy-efficient lighting can help lower a customer's electric bill, but the implementation cost can be a barrier. Through this program, OG&E can help families convert the lighting in their homes," said Kathleen O'Shea, OG&E spokeswoman.

The bulbs distributed in 2015 and 2016 saved recipients more than 18 million kWh. In addition, the energy saved lowers key air emissions like CO2, NOX and SO2 by more than 10,000 tons.

In addition to the food bank program, OG&E offers both residential and commercial energy efficiency programs. The residential program includes a free online home energy profile and in-home assessment, as well as an advanced A/C Tune-up, and rebates for attic insulation and ENERGY STAR window installation. The commercial program has varied offerings supporting businesses of all sizes, including schools and government agencies.
