OG&E Works Through Snow to Restore Power
In southern and eastern Oklahoma, OG&E estimated that about 11,000 customers remained without power, down from 23,000 on Sunday. In Arkansas, where OG&E serves the Fort Smith area in the western part of the state, about 15,000 customers were still without power Monday, down from 15,700 on Sunday.
As expected, the snowfall that blanketed most of OG&E's service territory Sunday slowed the progress of the power-restoration effort in some areas. However, the snow was not expected to create significant new power outages.
As the work continues, OG&E asks that customers who have not called to report power outages to do so at (800) 522-6870. Additionally, customers who previously reported their power outage but remain without power are encouraged to call again, to ensure that OG&E has the best possible information to speed the ongoing restoration effort.
OG&E noted that in some locations, damage to homes and other buildings will prevent the restoration of electric service. In some cases, property owners will need to have repairs completed by a certified electrician. Any customer still without power should inspect their home or business for damage that would prevent the restoration of electric service, and make arrangements for repairs.
OG&E also urges people to stay away from downed power lines, and to report them at the same 24-hour, toll-free telephone number, (800) 522-6870.
OG&E has more than 700 linemen working in the storm-damaged areas. Combined with more than 300 members of tree crews and more than 100 support staff, customer-service and other personnel, the number of people working on the OG&E power-restoration effort stands at more than 1,100.
Customers who wish to speak in person with an OG&E representative can inquire with the local OG&E business offices in Ardmore, Ada, Muskogee and Fort Smith. As of Friday, those offices planned to be open during the holiday weekend if circumstances warranted.
OG&E, Oklahoma's largest electric utility, serves 700,000 customers in a service territory spanning 30,000 square miles in Oklahoma and western Arkansas.
