OG&E Continues Progress in Power Restoration

January 2, 2001
OKLAHOMA CITY -- OG&E Electric Services today reported further progress in its power-restoration effort in response to the ice storm of Dec. 25-26.

OG&E estimated that about 5,000 customers in Oklahoma remained without power on Tuesday, down from 11,000 on Monday. Many of the remaining power outages are widespread. Most of the customers still affected are in the Poteau, Davis, and Checotah areas. In Arkansas, where OG&E serves the Fort Smith area in the western part of the state, less than 4,000 customers were still without power Tuesday, down from 15,000 on Monday.

As the work continues, OG&E asks that customers who have not called to report power outages to do so at (800) 522-6870. Additionally, customers who previously reported their power outage but remain without power are encouraged to call again, to ensure that OG&E has the best possible information to speed the ongoing restoration effort.

OG&E noted that in some locations, damage to homes and other buildings will prevent the restoration of electric service. In some cases, property owners will need to have repairs completed by a certified electrician. Any customer still without power should inspect their home or business for damage that would prevent the restoration of electric service, and make arrangements for repairs.

OG&E also urges people to stay away from downed power lines, and to report them at the same 24-hour, toll-free telephone number, (800) 522-6870.

OG&E, Oklahoma's largest electric utility, serves 700,000 customers in a service territory spanning 30,000 square miles in Oklahoma and western Arkansas.
